13th Dinner: Triskaidekaphilia
August in Austin, gentlemen — the dog days are here. Concrete radiating heat well past sundown, the sun setting a little earlier each week, and the year quietly pivoting from expansion to harvest. Thirteen dinners deep now. What started as six men at Loro a year and a half ago has become a standing rhythm, a fixture on the calendar, a circle that keeps drawing itself back together month after month. A perfect circle one might say.
Thirteen has always been the number people flinch from — the extra guest at the table, the missing floor in the hotel, the date no one wants on the calendar. Which is exactly why it belongs to us. The thirteenth guest at the Last Supper wasn't the ruin of the meal, but the turn of the story. Arthur seated thirteen at his Round Table for the same reason: twelve companions and the one seat left open for whoever the story needed next. Take the symbolism or leave it. We're doing numbers either way.
Topic this round, loosely: what you're transforming. What are you letting go of before year's end? What's the version of you that walks into the fall that the version of you from January wouldn't recognize?
Show up, settle in, speak freely. See you all there.
